Thank you for this great article! Hat’s off to the great job that the State of Illinois is accomplishing with English Language Learners in Pre-K. The Multilingual Action Council (MAC) a community-based and non-profit organization, located at Wheelock College shares the same mission. MAC in the past ten years have developed a comprehensive approach that aims at strengthening ELL children’s two primary caregivers: Early Childhood Educators and parents. MAC focuses on providing Professional Development to Early Childhood Providers around cultural competencies, translation both written and verbal and also works with immigrant and multilingual parents to increase parental engagement.

The population of English Language Learners is on the rise. More states should invest in early initiatives such as ours as a preventive measure to bridge the achievement gap between ELL and their peers early. We hope to expand the work in Boston and in other locations as the state invests in our work.

We welcome new members both individuals and groups.
