		<description><![CDATA[It is great to have a state senator with such an understanding of the need for education reform.  I hope she will address what I see as a problem in our system:  the disconnect between the education reformers from the early childhood educators.  To solve the problem of eighth grade readers, we need to know that reading does not begin in pre-K tp 3rd grade; it begins at birth.
The learning-teaching trajectory for reading begins with experiences children have from birth right through eighth grade and beyond.  Our standards need to reflect all these experiences.]]></description>
